Introduction:                                                                                                                                              
            Barium sulphate is the most important barium material. It occurs rather in pure state. It is white or yellowish, odourless, tasteless powder, soluble  in concentrated sulphuric acid. It has specific gravity 4.25, particle size 2-25 microns, melting point 1580 digri C.
It is non toxic and non-combustible. It is used in weighing mud in oil drilling, paper coating, paint, filler and delustrant for textile, rubber, linoleum, oil cloth, plastics and lithograph inks, as a base for lake colours, X-ray photography, as an opaque-medium for gastrointestinal radiography.So Barium sulphate finds widespread use in the chemical industries. In pure from precipitate Barium sulphate is used as such in large tonnages in the paint use pigment industries.

Market Position :

           Barium sulphate is important Barium material. The scope and market position of the compound is increasing rapidly. Its demand installed its too much in all industries like rubber, paints, plastics, textiles industries. There are few unites producing Barium sulphate. Only 7 to 8 industries are big scale and rest are is small scales. So there is a huge gap between production and consumption.

 Requirement Raw Material :
         
              Barium sulphide                  1500   kgs.
              Sulphuric acid.                       225   kgs.

 Manufacturing process :
     
          Barium sulphate is produced by the action of sulphuric acid on Barium sulphide. The Barium sulphate produced is filtered and then washed. It is then sent to a dryer and the product is finally pulverised and packed in suitable container.
